Setting Up A WordPress Marketing Hub – Nerve Center
This is the technical walkthrough for setting up a WordPress Marketing Hub.
1. Domain Name. Register a domain name at GoDaddy.com. I suggest using your name, especially if it is your first site. For example: TyTribble.com
2. Hosting. I recommend Bluehost for a couple of reason. First they are reliable and inexpensive and second they refuse to host porn sites.
3. Nameservers. Bluehost will email you with information about your Nameservers. Nameservers are how Bluehost will know that your domain name is pointed at them so that they can put your site at that address. The Bluehost Nameservers should be something like: NS1.Bluehost.com and NS2.Blueshost.com. You will want to log in to your GoDaddy account and set your Nameservers to point at Bluehost.
- Log in to GoDaddy
- Click on “My Account”
- Click “View All Domains”
- Click on your domain name.
- Select Nameservers, Click “I Host My Domain With Another Provider” and update with the information from Bluehost
4. Upload Your WordPress Blog To Bluehost
- Log in to your Bluehost account and from your cPanel find the WordPress icon under “Software and Services”
- Install a brand new version of WordPress on your domain. You can install it on the main domain (recommended) or you can install with a /blog.
5. Theme.
- Once WordPress sends you the log in info to your new WordPress Marketing Hub, log in and browse around.
- To change your theme, click on Appearance and add a new them. (this is a lot easier than it used to be).
- I suggest searching for iBlog2 to start with. It is a simple free theme that will get you up and running.
Of course there is a lot more to adding the correct plugins and integrating social media, posting content, etc., but this tutorial will get you up and running.
